Affectionately called Teddy P, he rose to fame with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes in the early 70’s. With hits such as, “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” they quickly topped the charts and Teddy became a star.
In 1982 the brakes failed on his Rolls Royce resulting in a near-death car accident and Teddy was paralyzed from the waist down.
Teddy, born Theodore DeReese Pendergrass on March 26, 1950, was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in 2009. His battle with the disease ended yesterday, January 13, 2010. Teddy was 59.
